GRAPEMO 2011: Final Weekly Progress Report

In case any of you are feeling bad because you didn’t make your PWG, didn’t write as often as you would’ve like to, wasted time, or generally feel as if you accomplished nothings, these 3 brilliant people all said the same thing, in 3 different ways:

“Every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” Thomas Alva Edison

“Defeat is simply a signal to press onward.” Helen Keller

“What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.” Mary Pickford

catherine_james  drove herself nuts trying to perfect one review and that's it—“I take *ABSOLUTELY NO PRIDE* in reporting this.”

daretoimagine  was sidetracked a bit, but hopes to make one last ditch effort before tomorrow.

fandoria  wrote 200 words—more than last week!

inknbeans  rewrote seven of ten chapters in her project and has already met her word goal of 60K!

Jean D did some more writing on her MG, revised the first 2+ chapters, and finalized the synopsis for submission for the SCBWI wip contemporary novel grant. “A good week all in all!”

Kathie C (word for word, lol): “Kathie C who usually does revisions in her head BEFORE anything gets written down managed to savage her first chapter of the Novel-in-the-Drawer, mostly by deleting several pages, but decided she hates it all. Ok then. (She also hated both books that got published so this is not necessarily to be taken seriously. And besides, she also DID work out a thorny character problem AND got some further ideas for Book 1 of this series. That's right, the N-I-T-D that has a FULL first draft is Book 2. KC never claimed to have a logical mind....Book 1 has been in the drawer even longer, is HAND WRITTEN, and so far is only 50 baddddd pages).

Laura H “My update haha is that school vacation = the devil.” However, she did manage to get in about 500 word and is looking forward to getting back into the routine that she established during Grapemo.

PS: Laura has a BLOG if you'd like to check it out!

merricat_84  worked very hard on her character list last week.

onegrapeshy  did a massive amount of revisions, and hopes to finish up the worst of it today.

ophelialaughs :
“Goal One: Keeping at least five queries in circulation -- check. Since I never heard back from any of the eight I've had out since January, this goal was not much of a challenge.
“Goal Two: Writing one scene for Voices even if I throw it out later -- check...by the skin of my teeth. I'm pretty sure it's the worst scene I've written in at least five years, but it's done enough to stick a fork in, anyhow.”

Patti M’s goal hasn’t been because of a bout of illness, but good things have come of GRAPEMO “so I can say it was very worthwhile. She is back on track, digging into her WIP, and continues to seriously studying the craft—“I've learned more this month than in the rest of the year combined.”

sookie06  skipped #3 on her list of PWGs, so she is DONE! She also squeezed in two writing days last week (to me, a amazing FEAT with a baby around).

warriorofworry  has to cut herself a break after recovering from surgery, and “my brain wasn't convinced it had to come along. I will say that I *thought* about my WIP a lot. I have an idea of where to start, if I can refrain from just throwing out what I already did and doing a total rewrite (somehow that doesn't seem like ‘revision’). She adds, “Best of luck to all! I have been awed and humbled by everyone's hard work!”

I was able to get to 43K! I'll be on vacation next week and plan to also take a vacation from writing, reviewing, and critiquing. Hoping this will have me more on the ball when I come back!
