Thankful Thursday

Elijah is back at camp after a week and a half off. X-rays showed he has severe left hip dysplasia and needs a replacement. He's TWO! But we started him on Rimadyl and already he's better--no longer limping after only 2 doses. This'll buy us some time...

Thank you, Rimadyl!

Wow, that's a Huge serving on your platter, there. Hooray for any and all help available, huh? I hope he fares well on a continual, steady basis.

Oh poor Eli and poor you. But they have made such strides in keeping dogs comfy when they have dysplasia. So yeah for Rimadyl!

Yeah, they have! And I know it's only a temporary fix, but I hope it'll get us through the next few months till I can afford the surgery.

oh my gosh, poor little guy. I didn't know they could develop dysplasia so young. Glad he's home and doing better.

I've been so worried. I don't know what surgery like that costs, but I'm pretty sure it's more than I could get even by selling my van. The vet told us Cobie's hips were good, but if they can't tell without an x-ray, now I'm worried about him again as well as Elijah.

I believe they're born with it and it just doesn't become symptomatic until some random time, so there's no such thing as too young.

I'm glad E is better. I've read sometimes the medicine works forever! Our fingers, toes, and paws are crossed! (((Puppy and Jen)))

It costs anywhere from $4,500 to $7,000. Someone told him it'll be less costly if I take him to OSU's veterinary school in Columbus (even the cost there is over 4K and that was in 2009). Then a doc at work last night told me I should take him to CANCUN where it'll only cost about 400 bucks and the rest I can blow on a lovely vacation, lol. However, no way am I stashing my baby in cargo and he is much to big to fit in a carry-on. :)

Holy crap. Is that for one hip or both?

(That's more than both our cars cost put together.)
