Random Tuesday

1) So my first round of editorial revisions is finished, and yeah, I knocked out 11K, bringing the word count down to a more manageable 93K. A few scenes were knocked out, but, for the most part, it meant simply cutting back on unnecessary words and slashing a line here and there. And I swore I'd never get it under 100K. Silly me.

Now I'm in that Very Weird Place again: nothing to work on. I do have interview questions to answer (although the person who sent them to me probably forgot about me by now) and I am halfway through the manuscript of a friend-who-shall-not-be-named because I-promised-not-to-tell. And let me just say: this novel is scaring the hell out of me. And that's a very good thing. :)

2) I did not get a flu shot this season and I'm thoroughly sick of people telling me how irresponsible that is. I do NOT get the FLU. I have never had the flu in my entire adult life. I rarely, rarely, rarely catch colds. I have the immune system of a rhino, or possibly a cockroach.  "You could make your patients sick!" people chide me. Um, how can I make them sick if I'm not sick? I never heard of an asymptomatic Influenza Mary. And in the event I do get sick, trust me--I'll stay home. QUIT RAGGING ON ME, PEOPLE!

3) I do, however, have a sky-high cholesterol and I've been trying like crazy to stick to a low fat diet. So far, so good--if you don't want to EAT anything good. For instance, I love cottage cheese, so I bought 2 containers of the fat-free stuff.  Yeah, I'll choke it down, but it is not delicious. Then there's the fat free half-and-half--WTH is that? Oh, yeah: oil. And fat free sour cream? Ranch dressing? Mayonnaise? I'd rather suck the moss out of my driveway cracks. Still, if I don't get my numbers down by December, she wants to start me on one of those liver-blasting statins. Yellow eyeballs, here I come. I know what I have to do. I just have to DO it.

4) Eli hasn't barfed in weeks, but he does have an ear infection, plus he's scratching like crazy which I suspect is an allergy to Science Diet. So what is this, a choice between scratching or puking? He's on prednisone now, plus ear drops, and his usual Pepcid, and also Benadryl now and then. No, none of this slows him down, thank goodness; he's his usual sweet, maniacal self--which is amazing because he doesn't even get treats anymore! No pig ears.  No bully sticks or rawhide chewies. Not even a crummy milkbone. Strictly Science Diet for Sensitive Stomachs. As for getting the meds down him, he just sits very quietly and lets me pop them in dry and swallows like a good boy, because he know he then gets--GASP!--a yummy piece of Science Diet for a treat! WOW!

5) Bought black flats for $10 that I can wear with my new outfit this weekend. They fit in the store. I hope they still fit me on Saturday.

I love your posts. You are the best writer. :-)
I hope Eli's itch goes away!

Also, I never get the flu shot either.

"Also, I never get the flu shot either."

You have no idea how glad I am you said that!

I never bother getting the flu shot, either, even though it is "highly recommended" that I do since I'm a diabetic. *shrugs*

And that's so great about your revisions! I'm always amazed by how much a book can shrink when simply deleting the "fluff" words.

Yeah for revisions being so done!

Flu shot is a personal choice and you being a nurse and all that, well sheesh, you do what you think is best for you.

Cholesterol sucks. Nuff said.

Love that Eli is so good about his pills but what a pain it is dealing with all this doggy illness things.

I never get a flu shot either, because of the poultry allergy, because they used to say if you're allergic to chicken OR eggs, not to get the shot. Recently a nurse told me if I'm only allergic to chicken but can eat eggs I'm probably good since the eggs are what they use...

OTOH, what's a bottle of generic nyquil run these days? That's about how sick I usually get.
