SUSHI VIRGINS

3 things I learned today in a Sushi Bar:

1. That pile of pink stuff isn't fish--it's shaved ginger root. Do not jam it in your mouth.

2. That glob of green stuff isn't guacamole--it's wasabi. Do not jam it in your mouth.

3. When you have no idea what you're ordering, it might be better to have a waiter who speaks English.

4. Seaweed is edible if you happened to like...um, seaweed.

5. My awesome daughter will eat ANYTHING. :)

Isn't it the tastiest?! (Except for urchin and the egg stuff ...)

Well, the hot stuff makes you kinda forget you're eating raw fish. :)

I used to have a rule: if I can't tell what it is I don't put it in my mouth. Guess I'm mellowing in my old age.

PS I love your new pic!

I always thought the pink stuff was fish too!

I always ask a series of detailed questions before I jam anything into my mouth.

I saw wasabi in a Chinese market this weekend, and learned that it contains horseradish. 'Nuff said. Nothing like a Chinese grocery store to curb my appetite (fish heads, anyone?) :>) The English translations on some of the packages and signs cracked me up, though, like the aisle with Wonton Warps. (I believe they meant Wraps.)

LOL!

I actually love horseradish. I just didn't expect it to be THAT.

(And WTH would I think they'd be serving guacamole in a sushi bar? Beats me)

Yes, once I picked off the seaweed and discovered the wasabi, lol.

I took a sushi making class once. An older woman (who had clearly never had sushi) didn't believe the teacher's warnings that the wasabi was HOT. She put it on the sushi pieces she made as if it was toothpaste.
When we ate, she had to lift all the fish from the rice and scrape of the wasabi...
