WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY COUCH?!?!?

I started sleeping on the couch when we first got Elijah so I could hear him when he wanted to go out. Plus it's easier to roll off a couch than to roll out of a nice warm bed and stumble downstairs in the dark.

Then it became a habit. I curl up on the couch with Eli after work (midnight or later) and watch some TV, then put Eli in his crate and fall back onto the couch. Sometimes I'll get lazy and let him spend the night with me. He also takes naps on it during the day.

Anyway. I have new furniture arriving tomorrow. Because today was trash day, Nate and TJ lugged the old couch and love seat out to the curb last night. This leaves one full day when I have no living room furniture whatsoever.

That day is today.

And Eli is freaking out:

"Mommy, where's my couch? Huh? Huh? No, I do NOT want to eat. I am eating NOTHING till you bring me back my couch." Sniff, sniff. "It's still not here! How will I take a nap? In my CRATE? I think not. On the FLOOR? What do you think I am, a dog???" Sniff, sniff, furrowed brow. "OK, now I'm pissed. Where ya hiding it, huh? No, I don't WANT to sleep on the couch downstairs! That is DOWNstairs. I live UPstairs, or have you forgotten?" Whimper, whine, and a big fat slap with his paw. Ow. "I will not EAT, I will not DRINK, I will not PLAY--stuff that ball!--and I will NOT stay outta your face till you BRING MY DAMN COUCH BACK! WOOF!"

Sigh. It's gonna be a long, looooooooooong day. :(

Oh dear! Some people, uh, er... dogs? have a hard time with change! I hope the day gets better for both you and Elijah!

He finally ate this afternoon and pooped out on a hassock I dragged into the living room. Honestly!

Poor baby. He may never be as happy with the new furniture, but it's a great opportunity to "change the rules." My guy wouldn't accept certain things either, so I can relate. Really relate. Good luck to both of you.

I can't imagine ever moving him to an entirely new HOUSE. :)

Poor Eli. Believe it or not I went through this with one of my dogs when I traded in one car for another. The dog hated the new car, pouted, whined, paced from the passenger seat to my lap. I was very tempted to go back and get my car back.

He was kind of weird when I first got this car, but adjusted fast. I think it's because we take him around in 3 different cars, depending on who is doing the driving.

I think it had a lot to do with the fact that Bozo was blind. He'd found his way around the old car and the new one was laid out differently.

Sounds like my dad. ("Why throw away that perfectly good old chair?") :>) Maybe it's a guy thing?

Maybe, I seem to remember my male CAT being equally suspicious.

awww, poor puppy. But LOL at your canine dialogue! Glad my cat didn't have those problems when I moved. I specifically schlepped my old ratty clawed-to-death wingback chair to the new house so that she would have something familiar to scratch on, until I could get her acclimated to a scratching post. I figured I'd have to quietly sneak Old Blue Chair out of the house when she wasn't looking; she loved to perch on top of it and survey all. But she totally ignored it in favor of a dusty old chair that had come with the house! sheesh.

Aww...poor Eli. (And "poor you" more, since you have to deal with poor Eli, haha.)
